Last night news broke that Defensive Tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested. Marcell Dareus was arrested for possession of synthetic cannabis, or “spice”. Today let’s try and figure out what is next for the Pro Bowl player from University of Alabama stand out.
Dareus is playing this season under a Bills option, there has not been much talk about a contract extension. That little fact leads me to believe that this season was going to be a trial run for Dareus. As we all know last season, Marcell had a few speed bumps; he forgot how to tell time, and it was not a one-time issue. Fast forward to the timing of the current event.
The NFL Draft is scheduled to kick off tomorrow, and the Bills have the 9 overall pick. With Dareus reportedly facing Felony charges in Alabama, what’s next? I have to put my two-cents out here. At this point in his NFL career there is no excuse for the recent stupidity. I know some people will beat the “it’s only “Spice” drum”, but the fact remains it is illegal. To further complicate things at One Bills Drive, Dareus is also facing a four game suspension from the NFL.
So, now what? I think the Bills will consider cutting Marcell, and that would open a big hole on the Defensive side of the Ball. Come tomorrow night this problem could come to a head; the possibly of losing Dareus for four games, and the impending”problems” could muddle up the Bills draft board.
Could we see a DT picked at nine? Maybe Aaron Donald out of Pittsburgh? It’s just something to think about.
