Buffalo Bills to Add Another TE to Mix

Tuesday will begin the first voluntary OTAs for the Bills. This is the first step for a lot of the veterans to begin to show the coaches where they are physically and mentally and if they are able to prove themselves on the field and at their positions. There are a couple of guys that are already on the border as to whether or not they will hold down their positions. This is also a nice chance for the coaches to begin to see what holes they may need to fill in the upcoming draft.

One player that is on the “prove to me” list is one that might be changing positions. Last year Brandon Kaufman played WR and special teams for the Bills. He has recently put on over 30 pounds and is looking to make the switch to TE.

Kaufman is currently listed as being 6-5 215#. With the additional 30 pounds he would be in the 245 to 250 range. At 6-5 he provides a big target. If Kaufman does make the move to TE he would join Scott Chandler, Tony Moeaki, Mike Caussin, Lee Smith and Chris Gragg.

Kaufman would be the 6th TE on the team during the OTAs and training camp. I know that everyone is high on Eric Ebron but do you bring in a 7th TE to the team at this point. You are only going to be carrying 3 maybe on a stretch 4 TEs come your 53 man roster. Yes, Kaufman could make the switch back to WR at some point as well, but can you use a 245# WR? I can’t see the Bills drafting a TE in the first round. OT is still my front runner, Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan, with the possibility of Mike Evans if all the Top OTs are gone by 9.
