Today is yet another step in the free agency market. Today, just a couple of hours ago, starting at noon, agents for free agents can begin to talk to interested teams.
For some this will allow for a quick signing on Tuesday, while it could allow for a bidding war to start up allowing the agents of free agents to use one teams offer against another to get the best possible contract for their player.
While talks can begin today, no contracts can be finalized, with a players signature until March 11th, this coming Tuesday.
What moves will the Bills make? Will anyone be contacting the Bills? I think in all likelihood, Buffalo will be in contact with either McClain’s agent or Brinkley’s agent, if not both. Buffalo has already begun talks with these players in the form of player interviews.
This could also play into the favor of Byrd and the Bills. Byrd’s agent, you can bet, is out their right now finding out who is interested and what they will pay for Byrd. They already know what the Bills will pay so it is a good starting point. Does Byrd test to see where he is at and give Buffalo the last chance bid to bring him back? At this point, that would be a class act as far as I am concern. Find out what others will pay and let Buffalo know, “This is what it will take to bring me back.” It could work out for both parties.
So far in the first couple of hours, there hasn’t been any word that the Bills are talking to anyone, but we may not find out either. I think we will just have to wait and see what kind of splash the Bills make in a couple of days.
