Recently, Aaron Williams was offered and accepted a 4 year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. He also was one of the more productive players on the ills defense this past year, playing at Safety, a position he just moved to from cornerback.
Williams met up with Alex Marvez and Phil Savage on Sirius XM NFL Radio yesterday and talked about his contract extension and the upcoming free agency.
Byrd is set to become a free agent in a couple of days and the time that the Bills and Byrd have is running out. It is good news for the Bills, though, that Byrd is interested in staying in Buffalo.
“I know that they’re still negotiating. I don’t want to speak on their situation because I have no say, nor do I know the full story on it, but I know Jairus does want to come back and wants to be a part of something special. Jairus and I have a great friendship. We communicate non-stop,” Williams said.
“Actually, I had the chance to talk to him last night and I wish him the best regardless of if he stays or doesn’t. We’re always going to have a great relationship with each other and always going to keep in touch. We have a great chemistry together on the field. They know that we’re probably one of the best duos of safeties in the league and I’m pretty sure they want to keep him.”
Williams does state that Byrd wants to stay in Buffalo. Byrd also reportedly wants to be the highest paid safety in the league to a tune of 9 million a year. Byrd has already turned away a contract offer from the Bills that was said to be a lucrative one. Where both sides stand is a question we have to wait on, but if they are still negotiating, it is a good sign.
