The Buffalo Bills drafting a running back? It sounded crazy to me too, but that is exactly the rumor going around (see Mike Rodak’s story here). The theory is that Fred Jackson is getting a bit old for the job and CJ Spiller’s rookie contract is up in the next couple years. Beyond those two there is a huge drop off.
Certainly there is no running back in the draft that would merit being chosen in the top ten. The third day of the draft is our focus for this situation. The Bills did interview with Boston College running back Andre Williams, but that is probably the team doing their due diligence.
I am not a huge fan of drafting a running back unless he is a game changer (i.e. Adrian Peterson or Bo Jackson). We see too many Trent Richardson and Blair Thomas picks to utilize the valuable slots allotted to the team in May. I just don’t see any back that would have an impact for the Bills.
I think free agency or even the undrafted pool will provide an answer to this need. Is there another Fred Jackson or Adrian Foster out there? I would not use a draft pick and take my chances in this direction. What say you Buffalo Bills fanatics?
