There has been a lot of talk about the Buffalo Bills taking Sammy Watkins at the 9th overall pick.  Buffalo does need a wide reciever to step in and take the number 1 role and be able to make those game deciding catches.

Sammy Watkins is a WR out of Clemson.  Watkins is 6’1″ and weighs 211 #s.  Watkins is ranked first at his position and is projected at 6th overall.  CBS mock draft analysts are projecting Watkins to go to two teams, either to the Raiders at the 5th overall pick or to the Buccaneers at the 7th overall pick.

Watkins ran a 4.43 40 and was able to push out 16 reps on he bench press.  He has a vertical of 34.00 and a broad jump of 10’5″.  His cone and shuffle drills come in at 6.95 and 4.34 respectively.

Strengths for Watkins include being able to get up to full speed quickly.  He is able to change gears when needed and he has great footwork.

Weaknesses for Watkins include his not so stellar height and his body is not as big a some would like.  He has overall good speed but his lack of size will not lead to many tackles being broken.  He is definitely not a Megatron type receiver.

CBS compares Watkins too…

“COMPARES TO: Mix of Torrey Smith (Ravens) and Percy Harvin (Seahawks) – Watkins has the size and vertical ability of Smith and the acceleration, toughness and multiple gears like Harvin.”

Would I like to see Watkins in a Bills uniform? I think that Watkins will bring a lot to the Bills.  I also believe that WRs are a dime a dozen and you could find one with a bit more size and maybe speed in a 2nd or 3rd round and still come out on top.  I know the Bills are looking for a number 1 receiver I just don’t know if Watkins is it.  Will I be disappointed if they do draft Watkins, Absolutely not! I just think they can look at other pressing needs with the 9th overall pick.

Great prospect that’s true, BUT for my choice it was and still is Eric Ebron the greater prospect at TE!! Better overall fit for the Bills imo. GO BILLS!!

If he’s there at 9 and the two tackles and Mack and Mosley are off the board, you draft him. He’s THAT good. I’m not confident the Bills know how to effectively use the TE.

In my 1st post I forgot, in my overwhelming enthusiasm (LOL), I didn’t mention that getting Watkins, Benjamin or Evans would be great, damn great left overs. lol. No way should we draft any O-Linemen till at least the 3rd round. Need convincing just loook around and see how many this draft has, some are saying the best in NFL History. GO BILLS!!

If by some incredible luck Sammy Watkins is still in the green room when Buffalo is on the clock, they need to turn in the card with his name on it without blinking. This is the next big-time playmaker in the NFL and whoever drafts him will have an extremely excited QB. In my opinion this isn’t their #1 need, but I think they could cover their top need(OL) in the 2nd round. I don’t see any way they’re lucky enough to be able to draft Watkins, so more realistic in my opinion would be to either draft Jordan Matthews in the 2nd, Martavis Bryant in the 3rd, or go for Mike Davis later. I’m really hoping that at least 1 of, Jadeveon Clowney, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews, Sammy Watkins, or Kahlil Mack are still on the board at #9. That’s my top tier for Buffalo’s pick, the next tier for me would be, Anthony Barr, Mike Evans, CJ Mosley, and Justin Gilbert. If only 2nd tier guys are there, I’m more than fine with a trade down. Buffalo can really go a long way in building a perennial playoff team in this draft. Hopefully it falls in line for them to take the players who will help them the most.
