We have just looked at Sammy Watkins and what he brings to the table. It wouldn’t be fair to leave out Mike Evans.
Mike Evans is a WR coming out of Texas A&M. He stands 6’5″ tall and weighs 231 #s. He is bigger and taller than Watkins. He has the size that the Bills are looking for at the wide reciever position.
Evans is ranked behind Watkins at the reciever position at number 2 and is projected in the 13th spot. CBS mock draft analysts have Evans going as high as 10th to the Lions and as low as 17th to the Ravens. The Rams with the 13th pick are also in the mix.
Evans ran a 4.53 40, so he was a tad slower than Watkins and not as strong either pushing only 12 reps with the bench. Evans brought in a 37.00 vertical which is more than Watkins but did not partake in the broad jump. For his cone and shuffle drills he finished with 7.08 and 4.26 respectively. Not as good as Watkins in the cone drill but better in the shuffle drill.
Strengths for Evans is that he is a physical reciever and will push defenders around. Evans has the strength to break tackles and uses his body to excel at the position.
Weaknesses for Evans include his speed. Looking at his numbers his 40 time is not great. He is also not quick off the line but he does have longer strides to help him in that area.
CBS compares Evans to…
“COMPARES TO: Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Like Jackson, Evans is a huge target whose size, strength and body control make him equally dangerous when fighting off defenders for contested passes and when using his long strides as a deceptive deep threat.”
Evan though Evans is not quick off the line, I believe that he has the size the Bills are looking for at the reciever position. He is a physical reciever that can also go down the field and make big plays. I would be more inclined to have the Bills draft Evans before they draft Watkins.
