First off I want to say good on the Bills for taking care of business today playing their final home game and denying Miami a chance to better their playoff hopes. The defense was dominate but it’s what happened on the offensive side of the ball that I want to talk about.

When EJ Manuel was drafted what did everyone hear over and over? He’s a smart kid, he has an arm and also he was going to be a project. That’s all fine and good but how often have we seen the arm? When Manuel has been in this season we may see a few shots down field but in the end we have been accustomed to seeing check down after check down. Today watching Thad Lewis under center we saw him slinging it. All over the field he seemed like he was given the go sign to let it fly. By mid-way through the second quarter I counted 10 balls thrown 15 yards or farther down the field. Regardless of the result (even though we want completions) shouldn’t we be seeing Manuel do this? This is the year he is basically given a free pass but nobody has seen what he’s capable of because of the inability or Hackett telling him not to go deep. Being a Bills fan everyone knows we have been waiting for someone who can throw the long ball.

Now with Manuel said to be playing next week I really would like to see him use this big arm everyone talks about. I’ve seen it sparingly but would like to see him really air it out. I know people will say the Bills do throw it deep and look at the stats but aside from the td passes that Manuel threw how come I can only remember Lewis’s games where it looked like the Bills went downfield more often.
