Is Scott Chandler In The Bills Future Plans?

As this season continues it will be good to hopefully see this team healthy. The coaching staff and been plugging guys in here and there and it’s good to see them play well however I want to know who the future is. Now most of us could put together a list of which they think or would like to see here but what about those guys on the cut line I guess you could say. One player that may be in those talks is Scott Chandler.

Chandler in his fourth season with the Bills has been a pleasant surprise for this team. He’s a big body that has decent speed but I believe this team wants a definite threat at this position come next year. His production in my opinion hasn’t been up to where I would like to see it. Now you may ask is that his fault or the coaching staff? His 6’ 7” frame should give opposing defense’s nightmares when he’s on the field however I can’t remember any team really game planning to stop Scott.

This year I think would be one season Chandler would like to forget. Although he has time to help it he hasn’t performed even up to his standards I guess you could say. He only has had 5 + receptions twice in the Bills first 11 games. Along with that he has had a good amount of drops this year. Being targeted 60 times thus far and only having 37 receptions is a concern. I think some of those are for sure on the quarterback but looking back at how many drops he has had with nobody around him. Hopefully that can be corrected as the Bills finish out their season.

Looking at the offseason I think the Bills will absolutely go after a tight end that will be a major threat for years to come. Whether that’s in the draft or someone they can sign I think it will be high on this coaching staffs list. Also in doing this it will also help the future franchise quarterback progress. More dynamic players around EJ Manuel will only benefit him.

He’s killed more than one drive this year, to be nice. He’s also kept a few alive, but there were many more where he dropped the ball as if it had cat nails sticking out of it. He obviously has the skills, but what does it take to make him complete? Coaching? Other teammates to assist him? Whatever it is, we need him to be better, he could be a tremendous TE. There’s been plenty of examples of what he could mean to us, but when does the consistency show itself? I hope he gets it together, because he could easily become the game breaker we need. Sadly, he’s also been spanked at blocking, that’s got to be fixed as well. We need a guy like Pete Metzelaars or Tony Gonzalez to work with him as he could be killer when needed. Good article btw John Starba.

Like most fans, I am a bit confused with his results too. Drops, a lot there, but is it his fault entirely? No, quarterbacks have thrown bad passes that were uncatchable. Eliminating those, how many can be pointed directly at him? I don’t have those numbers, but I remember a bunch. Those need to stop, simple as that. John you made a great suggestion, get a coach, ex-player, etc. to teach him. Blocking!? He can’t block a feather! I kind of think his days are numbered, he more than likely gets released if these things don’t change. Nice guys finish last, HE is a nice guy! GO BILLS!!
