Super Mario to break sack record?

The Buffalo Bills have been somewhat consistent in play overall so far through the first 7 games.  We are coming into the halfway point for the season and the Bills have the opportunity to start the second half of the year at 4-4.  The New Orleans Saints are the team that stands in the way of a .500 record after this week.

When the Bills keep games close and play well and so far up to this point win, the defensive line puts a lot of pressure on the quarterback.  Coming into this game, this should be no different as the Saints are a similar team to the Patriots in play and ability.  The Bills defense will need to put pressure on Brees throughout the game and make sure they hit him as well.

Super Mario has 10 sacks through 7 games.  This puts him on pace to finish the year with just under 23 sacks (22.8).  Williams, if he continues on this pace, he will pass Strahan’s record of 22.5 in 2001.  Williams is not alone though, Mathis (Indy) has 11.5 and leads the league and Houston (KC) is sitting with 10.  This will be a race to the end and should be close.  It very well could come down to how is healthy longer.

The other issue that could come into play is consistency.  Williams has not been consistent in this aspect as he has gotten sacks in groups rather than 1 or 2 a game.  This might hurt him in the long stretch.
