This year Bills fans have finally begun I think to believe that the right changes have been made. Everything from the front office, coaching staff and also the quarterback position has seen changes. That being said EJ has been the focal point of basically everything this team has done. Something I thought about is what if he wasn’t drafted this year? Kiko Alonso would be this guy in the spot light as he is someone this team hasn’t had at the linebacker position in some time.
Back in training camp he made an immediate impact showing he could play at a high level. Knowing in camp that we got a guy like that and could play in all situations was a great feeling seeing how badly we needed someone like him. The way he reads the field, his speed, coverage and just being so comfortable in his position is good to see especially in a rookie.
Looking at some things he has done so far in his first two games would surprise some people if they didn’t follow him or the Bills. First off he is the only defender to play every snap so far as we go into week 3. Stat wise they look like this: 2 games played, 19 tackles, 1 sack, 1 Int, 1 forced fumble and also a fumble recovery. Those stats to me are very good and if he could continue to play at this great pace this team could have the NFL’s rookie of the year and/or defensive player of the year.
Like I said above that if we didn’t draft EJ this year the spotlight would be over Alonso. Looking at it now there’s no doubt I’m glad we got both guys and hope their development continues and it helps this team as much as possible. This is what happens when you draft well. As this season goes on and EJ excels let’s not forget about the linebacker we drafted as he’s the best we’ve seen in years.
