Mario Williams was a first round pick and is paid as such. The Buffalo Bills brought him in to do what he did against the Carolina Panthers on a weekly basis. Last year, with a wrist injury, he was unable to put together a season that would change the record books and turn heads.
So far, two weeks into the season, Mario is the Super Mario that the Bills have hoped for and can’t be any more pleased.
Williams put up 4.5 sacks against the Panthers and was named the defensive player of the week. Last year he was able to put up a total of 10.5 sacks. He is on pace to shatter last years mark.
The Jets’ Antwan Barnes made a statement about the 4.5 sacks put up against the Panthers.
“It’s the Panthers we’re talking about,” Barnes said with a laugh to Newsday’s Kimberley Martin. “Obviously, he’s a first-round pick, they pay him so much money, so he’s got to go out there and do something. For our O-linemen, it’s the same. They go against us every day. They won’t be scared or intimidated by it.”
Williams and the Buffalo Bills look to face off against the Jets at 4:25 on Sunday. It is the first road game for the Bills. I would like nothing more than to see Geno Smith on his back 4+ times at the hands of Super Mario, and I know that he can do it.
