I rubbed my eyes. I rubbed them again. This was not the Buffalo Bills of 2012. A defense that was actually keeping New England in check? I didn’t even know the Patriots had a quarterback on their roster. Is E.J. really a rookie?
As impressed I was with Buffalo’s overall performance against one of the best run franchises in professional sports, I was merely waiting for reality to check. It did. A Stevie Johnson dropped pass on third down. A quick three and out for their final drive. Tom Brady milking 6 minutes off the clock on a drive that lead to a game winning field goal.
Yes, week 1 ended with disappointment. However a deep breath and look back at their overall performance gave me hope for the 2013 season. The game was thoroughly enjoyed at Duff’s Southlake, Texas location. Enjoying E.J. Manuel’s two touchdown passes among Bills faithful while consuming great wings was an ideal way to spend the afternoon. If only they had been able to keep their second half lead, it would have been nearly perfect.
Yes, injuries continue to hamper the line up (losing Goodwin and Brooks for some time), but there’s plenty of hope in a winnable game against Carolina.
