As we wait until the deadline for all teams to reach the 53 mark I wonder if the Bills will be bringing in another corner (maybe 2) from the outside? I mean it looks like a very high possibility that this is the route that they will go.
Today the Bills released three CB’s on the roster and that will bring their total to five. The ones that were giving their walking papers were: Crezdon Butler, Kip Edwards and TJ Heath. Out of those three I for sure thought Butler would’ve had the best shot at cracking the 53. The others from what they have showed have not done anything to earn a spot. Butler was even talked about earlier when Gilmore went down as being a potential starter alongside McKelvin but something must have happened.
The others that are still apart of this team have shown they are better than those above but aside from Gilmore the guys inline to get a spot are not that great if you ask me. Getting burned in camp and in the preseason has raised questions as to how they will handle the regular season. Also let’s not forget the taunting penalty by Ron Brooks in the preseason opener. That may stick with this coaching staff and they have addressed the penalty situation and that this team must cut them out of their game. As for now I don’t think anything will be done about that but if this team had the depth it may have been a different outcome. The five players that seem to be on the team for good are: Stephon Gilmore, Ron Brooks, Justin Rogers, Leodis McKelvin and Nickell Robey. With Gilmore hurt we are down to four and that tells me this team could for looking for a trade somehow (usually unlikely) or looking to the waiver wire.
I think as we are almost a week away from the first game this position is the scariest if you ask me. No leadership, real experience or even consistent play at the position puts the team in a difficult situation. I hope the Bills look at getting a veteran that can lead by example and get these young kids going.
