With EJ Manuel out for the remainder of the pre-season and Kevin Kolb suffering what the Bills believe to be a career ending concussion, the highest ranking quarterback in Buffalo is now undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel. Tuel has played very well so far in 3 pre-season games completing 31 of 43 passes for 299 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, and I anticipate a strong showing from him against the Detroit Lions this Thursday.
The Bills took no time in addressing their sudden emergency at the quarterback position and have already added 2 QB’s to their roster. They brought in Matt Leinart and John Beck on Sunday for a team workout and after signing Leinart they then traded LB Chris White to the Detroit Lions for Thaddeus Lewis. Lewis will most likely be cut once we get down to the 53 man roster but its an interesting move immediately following the Leinart signing, it makes me wonder what is up their sleeve with this move.
So that leaves Buffalo’s starting quarterback as none other than Jeff Tuel and I couldn’t be happier about it. I was cursing Doug Marrone to hell when he named Kolb the starter after his terrible game against the Vikings. I thought it was only fair that Tuel get a legitimate shot after how well he has played so far, and he got snubbed in my opinion. After taking first team reps this week in practice I expect an even more polished player and I can not foresee him playing anywhere near as poorly as Kolb has these past 2 games.
I hate that such a classy person has suffered such a devastating injury, but I also do not trust Kevin Kolb leading my football team. I wish you the best of luck in your recovery Kevin, and I hope your career is not in fact over. On the other hand I really like Jeff Tuel and felt that he was going to beat out Kolb for the backup job in Buffalo. This is Tuel’s time to shine and I am very confident that after Thursday’s game Matt Leinart wont have a reasonable chance to make this team. Who do you think will make the final roster between Jeff Tuel and Matt Leinart?
