Poll: Should Kolb or Tuel Start on Saturday?

Last nights stellar performance by EJ Manuel left the rookie quarterback with swelling in his knee and an MRI revealed that he will have to undergo  a minor procedure to correct it. Kevin Elliot is also out for the remainder of the season as he tore his ACL.  Coach Doug Marrone in a team statement said:

EJ Manuel had some swelling in his left knee this morning and was examined by our medical staff. An MRI revealed that he will need to have a minor knee procedure and that has been scheduled. He will miss the remainder of the preseason and then be re-evaluated at that time. Kevin Kolb will be our starting quarterback for this weekend’s game at Washington. Additionally, wide receiver Kevin Elliott has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.”

What that exactly means as to how long this procedure will keep Manuel off the field is unclear, and with Kolb’s lackluster performance against the Vikings starting defense this is not at all good news for Buffalo.  Kevin Kolb has already been named the starter against Washington next Saturday, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Jeff Tuel get some snaps against a teams defensive starters. If this is a true quarterback competition like Marrone says it is then Jeff deserves a shot at showing what he can do against first string players. What do you guys think about this?

Who should start against Washington on Saturday?

I agree, but how much time? Thinking maybe 5-6 minutes left in the half, then split 3rd quarter, Kolb, 4th, Tuel. GO BILLS!!

Start Kolb the last two games of pre-season; he needs the work, and the offense needs to be in sync as much as possible for the beginning of the season. Give Tuel a quarter each in the last two pre-season games (and work with the 1s in practices, too); the Bills need to see this guy on the field as much as possible, in order to find out exactly what they have (which, in my opinion, is a lot of talent and ability that needs to be groomed).
Too bad about EJ, but this is the NFL, and the Bills have a superlative medical staff – he’ll be all right. And when he returns, eventually he WILL be the starter; that’s just been postponed a little bit.

Tuel has been very impressive.Marrone had to keep reminding reporters how good he was before the Indy game, but now seems to seems to selling Kolb despite his bad showing. In any case, Tuel will now have a chance to get plenty of reps and stay sharp. If he clearly outplays Kolb, I hope this coaching staff will do the right thing. So tired of the NFL caste system that makes it nearly impossible for undrafted players to break into the starting line up.

Start Tuel and make Kolb 3rd string. Rather see a rookie make some mistakes than watch another no talent retread who is even worse than Fitztrajic.

I think, of the three candidates for starter, Tuel has the best chance of making a sustained impact on the future of the Bills. Kolb’s past record before coming to Buffalo proves he is not the answer to the Bills quarterback problem and Manuel will wilt when faced with a true NFL defensive line and passing defense. Once again, the Bills have failed to obtain a first class quarterback. I hope Tuel is a dark horse and the Bills get lucky for change.
