The Buffalo Bills first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday will have EJ Manuel as their starting quarterback. Kevin Kolb has had a rough week and after slipping on a wet mat and banging up his knee, he suffered a death in his family and had to leave camp during a very critical time of camp. As a result EJ Manuel got huge advantage in absorbing the new system in place and with Kolb’s knee still giving him the business, the most sensible move is to start Manuel against the Colts this Sunday.
It should be interesting to see how many plays the young QB will get Sunday, after explaining that Kolb will be dressed as an emergency back up coach Marrone said “we’ll probably put Jeff in there too” in a manner that seemed very serious. Generally teams only play the starting units for the first drive or two in their opening preseason game, but this coaching staff wants the players to be conditioned and ready to play a full and fast pace game by the start of the season.
If you have been following the Bills this off season you know that something very different is going on in Buffalo, and I think we can expect to see the starting units get more time than what we are used to in an opening preseason game. I am really looking forward to seeing big EJ compete against an opposing teams starting defense, and we should have a much clearer picture of how he is coming along after the game. Good luck to EJ and the rest of the team, Go Bills!!
