Donald Jones Retires

Donald Jones played for the Buffalo Bills for 3 years.  His numbers were average in his first two years and then began to pick it up last year.  Although the new Bills coaching staff didn’t see it that way.  Jones was released in March of this year.

Jones later was able to sign a contract with the New England Patriots for 3 years but was later released.  Coach Belichick stated that he likes to keep younger players that are on the bubble around and that will have a shot at their offense and give them the opportunity for some more reps.  Jones just did not fit into that situation for them.

Jones wasn’t sitting around for long and got calls to workout with a couple of other teams.  The Indianapolis Colts were one of those teams and that is where the shocking turn of events for Jones came about.  While doing a stress test on a treadmill for a physical, Jones’ Blood Pressure shot up to 250 over 110.  At this point the trainers stopped the test and Jones had a feeling he was done.

It turns out that because of this stress test, Jones found out that he has Kidney Disease.  Jones might need a kidney transplant soon and has already been reached out to by Alonzo Mourning who has had a kidney transplant as well.  Jones is also working with the same doctors that Mourning had worked with.  Jones had this to say…

“He let me know what he was dealing with and he let me know everything was going to be all right,” Jones said of Mourning. “Now, I’m definitely handling it well.”

Jones was one that was up and coming and at a moments notice is no longer in the NFL at the age of 25.
