As part of the minority internship program, Kevin Mawae came to Buffalo to help out on the other side of the ball, coaching. He is part of the internship program that the NFL has created to give “talented minority coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position.” This comes directly from the website for the program.
Since being here in Buffalo on Monday, Mawae has worked with the offensive line and Pat Morris, the O-Line coach.
“It’s great to be here, I’m glad I was chosen as one of the interns and fellowship programs,” Mawae said. “It’s one thing to play on the field but it’s another thing to teach what you learn. To be a part of the minority internship program is a pretty cool deal. It’s nice to be back around the game, especially to be here with Coach Marrone.”
There is no big surprise that Mawae ended up here with the Bills. Mawae and Marrone have worked together before for 8 years when Marrone was the OC for the New York Jets. Can we hold this against him?
Mawae, a former All-Pro as well as an All-Decade player, should bring some techniques and information to the Bills o-line and will learn a little bit as well, with coaching that is. Eric Wood said that he looked up to Mawae while he was playing in college.
Mawae also stated…
“For me, it’s really more about having an impact on the people I’m around, whatever level it is,”
