EJ Manuel Praised After Scrimmage

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone was pleased with EJ Manuel’s performance after Monday nights live scrimmage saying “I think it’s unbelievable to get him this amount of reps” also adding “The one thing he’s shown in a positive way is the mistakes that he has made during the course of practice he’s come back and not made those same mistakes.”

After the offense began poorly with Manuel throwing a pair of interceptions one of which was returned for a touchdown, Manuel bounced back in a big way throwing a slew of both long and short touchdown passes, and also leading a 7 play 70 yard scoring drive.

I fully expected the defense to present plenty of problems for whoever was on the field against them, and they wasted no time going to work. The Bills I believe will have one of the best defenses in the league  this year thanks to Mike Pettine, which I think is going to result in Manuel being even better than he looks in these practices.

Fortunately we are going to find out in just 5 days here when the Bills play their first pre-season game against the Colts on Sunday. That is when we will see to a better extent how both sides of the ball can compete with other teams in this league. Get ready Bills fans, the season is almost here and we have plenty of action coming in the next month to keep us entertained. Go Bills!

I heard it a bit differently, but lets just hope that Manuel struggling is due to Pettine’s defense and not Manuel’s lack of ability.

James, you may be going out on the limb a little (maybe a little more than “a little”) about the Bills having one of the best defenses – the big question, I think, is this: does Buffalo have enough talent, and enough players, to perform well in a Pettine-type hybrid pressure defense? Given the defensive drafts of the past few seasons, I have to wonder about that. Having Jairus Byrd on the field would make me feel a lot better about this, but hey – that train’s left the station, in my view. So, while there are lots of reasons why you’d be able to say that the offense may end up being MUCH better than in the recent past, the jury still has to be out on the defense – especially until we see what Tom Brady does to it. Remember … he didn’t struggle much with Pettine’s defenses the past several years.

perhaps a little, but maybe not. one thing for sure though, we are going to find out. Bird will be on the team come week one, he cant play for anyone else this year, and if he is so concerned about money there is no way he will sit and miss out on $7 million. I think the big question is when will he be able to catch up to the point that Pettine feels comfortable putting him on the field? I dont feel this is a coaching staff that is just going to throw him out there because he’s the “best” without him knowing the system. On that final note, I would hardly call the Jets a “team”. they are a complete joke in my eyes, and dont forget Rex Ryan decided to take half of the defensive calls away from Pettine last season, then wouldn’t tell anyone who made what call. so it really wasnt Pettine’s defense, it was half his defense, and i think that might have a lot to do with why he took the same job for a crappier team, he know’s where things are going on the Jets, and it obviously seems more promising in Buffalo. So I’m still going to chalk us up as one of the best defenses in the league this year and I hope you join me, but fair enough if you dont. Go Bills!!!

I think the Bills are going to have a pretty good season this year. I see them winning 6 games and with a little luck maybe even as many as 7. There is a possibility they could finish 3rd in the division behind New England and Miami. The Jets are in a real mess so the Bills have a decent chance to overtake them and stay out of the basement for once.
The Bills are in their 1st year of a rebuild so 6 and 10 would be a real good season. In a couple of year when they learn Marrone’s system I would expect them to improve to 8 and 8 or maybe even 9 and 7. There’s a pretty good chance they could make the playoffs in 2015

That’s what most Bills fans said last year, remember? A top 5 defense was the word on the Bills message board. Top 5, my a,s,s. They finished DEAD LAST or at least close to it. The defensive line is so over rated it ain’t funny. They can’t stop the run or rush the passer. So what is that line good at? NOTHING!
Nothing at all. Teams can run on this defense easily.
