The Buffalo Bills have failed to sign Jairus Byrd to a long term contract.
I think we can safely say goodbye to Jairus Byrd after this season. With the two sides failing to reach a long term contract by 4:00 pm this afternoon, they can only agree to a one year term until after the season is over.
Everything that I have seen and heard coming out of the Byrd camp has sounded ominous. Most of his tweets sound like he is thanking everyone and saying goodbye to Bills Nation and his interview comments have all sounded as if he was leaving as well. Eugene Parker is Byrd’s agent. He is not afraid to tell his clients to hold out. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come to that. The two sides need to get a one year deal now because I don’t think that Jairus Byrd will want to sign the franchise tag. I think it is time to start looking for a trading partner to see if we can’t salvage something from this situation.
The rumor is that Byrd is looking to be the highest paid safety in the league where as the Buffalo Bills are only looking to pay him in the top 3 or 4 of his position. If this is the impasse then I don’t see the sides coming together on this even after the season.
You have to wonder if the Bills front office knew this was coming and that was why they picked up two safeties in the draft.
Goodbye Jairus Byrd and thanks for all the picks.
