Besides the quarterback competition and what are the Buffalo Bills going to do at cornerback this year, I am focusing on where Jarius Byrd and the Buffalo Bills stand and what the possible outcome may be.
As of right now, there has not been any major movement from either side. Jarius Byrd has still not signed and it seems as thought the Bills have not made a move to make an offer worth Byrd’s time.
Byrd as well as the Broncos, Ryan Clady are still the only two franchise tags that have not signed with their team.
Both Byrd and Clady have until July 15th to sign long term contracts. If they don’t they will be restricted to only signing a 1 year deal, for Byrd this would be worth 6.916 million.
Byrd’s other option is holdout until after the week 10 deadline to report and accrue the season he’d need to become an unrestricted free agent again after the 2013 season.
Byrd will most likely sign, rather than holdout, and as a Bills fan and Byrd fan hopefully, a long term deal will come about before the 15th, but no talks are schedule for this week or next by either the Bills or Byrd and his agent. It doesn’t look good for that long term deal.
