In our fourth installment and last looking at the CB/DB category. We will have one more breakdown, looking at the Safeties that are listed on the roster. There are a couple of safeties that have been covered in CB/DB breakdown so those can be looked at as well to compete for either CB or S.
Justin Rogers has been with the Buffalo Bills for, this will be his, 3rd year. He and Butler are tied for the second longest playing experience behind McKelvin. In Rogers’ 2 years he has been able to start in 2 games but play in 29 of the 32, all 16 last year. He was able to come away with a total of 53 tackles 9 pass deflections and 2 interceptions. Not bad considering that McKelvin only has 6 interceptions.
Jumal Rolle signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent after the NFL draft this year. Coming out of Catawba as a CB he runs a 4.51 40 and is ranked 70th out of 216 CBs. Rolle is a 3 time All-South Atlantic conference selection and has a total of 16 interceptions in his collegiate career. He has great special teams ability and for a guy looking to make the team as the 5th and 6th CB, the special teams is where he will need to shine to make that impact.
Mana Silva came to the Buffalo Bills last year and was able to play in 7 games. He was able to come away with 2 tackles and has 7 in his career, 5 of which came in 5 games while playing for Dallas. Silva is a Strong Safety and had run a 4.43 40 back in 2011. He will be one of 7-8 guys competing for a spot at Safety. The other guys would be Meeks, Dangerfield (who we covered in the CB/DB breakdown, Searcy, Aaron Williams, Duke Williams, and Jarius Byrd. For the Safety position I believe that the Bills will only keep 4-5 guys, 5 being a stretch.
Look for the break at the safety position to come soon.
