Doug Marrone has brought in a new staff and a new scheme. This means that everything will be new, for the players and coaches. Starting over is one thing that can put a team behind the eight ball from a team that is only coaching and teaching rookies and new players.
The good news is that Marrone and his coordinators have been able to put into place the new offense and defensive schemes to the tune of about 90% complete. Marrone stated that there are some things that just can’t be put in without pads, goal-line is one of these.
With the playbooks just about 90% installed, the Buffalo Bills and Marrone will be able to focus on the competitions come training camp that everyone is eagerly awaiting.
This also puts the Bills farther along, than what would seem Chan Gailey ever was at this point. Knowing the systems is more than just half the battle, it is everything so players can now focus and tweak themselves at their positions.
Marrone believes that a competition is the best formula for a winning team.
“For training camp it’s about putting together a team and learning how to win as a team,” said Marrone, via the team’s website. “What’s the best formula for us to win as a team? To create the competition so we don’t make any mistakes in personnel decisions and the best players rise to the top.”
I was a little weary about Marrone coming in as head coach, but it seems with every day, I am getting more and more excited about the start of the season.
