This week, all of the draft rookies attended a NFL Rookie Symposium that broke down the expectations and what to expect from being a rookie in the NFL. This was no different for E.J. Manuel and a bit of added pressure to Manuel because of his first round pick but also being the top QB drafted overall.
With the Buffalo Bills taking Manuel as the number 1 QB in the draft, they have put the tag on him that he will be the new face of the franchise and they are looking to him to pull them out of the playless drought that they have been in for the past 13 years.
E.J had this to say…
“It’s a great responsibility,” Manuel said, via Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. “You’re always going to be watched, always going to be evaluated each and every day. You’ve got to take that responsibility and respect it. . . .
“I had high expectations no matter where I went in the draft. I’m a natural competitor. I mean, that’s something I was going to work toward anyway. So I don’t feel any added pressure.”
“I’ve always been taught that a good name is more important than great treasure,” Manuel said. “So just keeping that respect for yourself and keeping your name clean, I think that’s what adds to your legacy.
“Obviously, when you play well you have a football legacy. But at the end of the day, I still want to be known as more than a football player. I want to be remembered as a great man.”
The only real thing that is standing i front of Manuel is Kevin Kolb. Manuel just has to prove that he is the better option to lead the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs. I believe it is a doable task.
