Brad Smith’s future with this Bills organization may be coming to an end before the season starts. When they elected to go with two receivers that early in this past draft I think that was it for him. Places where he can contribute on the field are greatly diminishing and this could be it.
In 2011 Smith signed a 4year contract with the Bills. When he joined the team he became very versatile as of the positions he could play and what he could do to help this team. We have seen him come in and play quarterback (mostly wildcat), wide receiver and even a return man. With that he really hasn’t excelled in any of those categories. He has had his moments but when you look at the larger scale he hasn’t really done a whole lot.
As the Bills move along this offseason I have heard little to nothing about Brad Smith. I have been wondering if this new coaching staff just doesn’t have anything in store for Smith on this team. The return game could see some new faces this year along with the familiar ones. The QB position is now set with the drafting of EJ Manuel in the 1st round, signing Kevin Kolb and the receiver position discussed earlier is log jammed now from the draft as well.
That said I can’t see this team keeping him on this roster. The money he’s scheduled to be getting over the next two years just doesn’t justify how much time he will be on the field and/or contribute. Anyone think Brad stays and has a same/bigger role?
