This past Friday, the Buffalo Bills added to a much needed position; LB. They claimed Marcus Dowtin off waivers. This is the first bit of Mike Pettine that we have seen. By this I mean, Dowtin came to the Bills via waivers from the Eagles but Dowtin did play with the Jets on their practice squad as well as in 3 games and had 2 tackles for the Buffalo Bills’ new defensive coordinator.
Dowtin was signed to the Eagles practice squad at the end of last season and was re-signed after last season as a reserve/future free agent.
Dowtin was an undrafted free agent and runs 6’2″ 226 lbs. He comes in as most likely a Pettine influence pick up and should be familiar with Pettine’s defensive style as well as playbook. Could this mean that we might see the Bills go after Revis at some point? Could be interesting on Draft Day.
He is expected to participate in the ongoing voluntary mini-camps that will begin next week.
This addition for the Buffalo Bills, brings in a LB that is size-wise good. I have never seen him play, but as an undrafted free agent, this has to speak to some measure of his work ethic as well as his ability. With the releasing of Barnett and Buffalo only having Bradham and Sheppard at the LB position bringing Manny Lawson and now Dowtin is beginning to provide depth to what has seemed to be a very short list the past couple of years. Whether this crew will be able to shut the run down and cover a WR we will have to wait and see.
