Marrone and Buffalo Bills moving towards excellence

Doug Marrone came into Buffalo with a huge task at hand, turn the Bills into a winning team. For Bills fans this is the end result that we have been waiting for which has been going on for 13 years.  Unfortunately, we are not able to see the end result in the beginning.

Free Agency did not go as we would have liked in Buffalo.  With the Buddy Nix telephone tapping incident, to minimal new signings to the team and letting G Andy Levitre get away so easily.

There is some hope at this point though.  The draft is coming up and speculation is running wild right now.  Voluntary Team Workouts have begun earlier this week as well.  Marrone has made changes to the field house for the Buffalo Bills.

Marrone has taken what was an empty field house at either end and brought back the Championship years of the old days by putting up banners and from the AFL and AFC Championship days.  He also placed a Lombardi trophy at the top of the end walls.  He also put up motivation sayings such as “Don’t confuse effort with results”.

Marrone is also big on the team workouts by saying, ““It’s human nature,” Marrone said. “When you’re training as a team, you’re able to push yourself a little bit more. And I’m not saying that to people who train on their own, that they can’t get a lot accomplished, they can. But I think when you’re together as a team, it gets into team building.”

With the Workouts also comes Team building and cohesiveness which is also something the Buffalo Bills have seemed to lack in recent years.  Individuals working towards a goal but not the entire team.

“What is team building?,” he asked. “Some people think it means take the team on a picnic or to go play paintball-those type of activities. But for me, team building is when I’m out there running or I’m lifting, and I’m struggling to get that last rep—I’m tired and I don’t want to run that extra sprint, and I look over there and there’s someone next to me, and he says, ‘C’mon, let’s go, we have to go. You can count on me to do it.’”

I don’t get why people naturally assume that this team doesn’t have a stellar FA offseason if the league’s top 10 FAs don’t batter down the front door at Ralph Wilson Stadium, pleading to be signed! There are lots of different factors why a player chooses a team, or vice versa; for one thing, they know more about each other than the typical fan does about the inner workings of either party. And as far as Andy Levitre goes – what are you gonna do? The guy got a bankjob-type contract from Tennessee … would you have been happy if Buffalo had given him that contract, at the expense of filling all of the other holes on this team? Please, people – stop, and think about the big picture here. I would have loved to see Andy stay – but there’s no way it makes sense for a smaller-market team like Buffalo to give that guy 8 mil a year! That kind of strategy has been used in Buffalo before – and look where it’s gotten us.

No, Buffalo had a decent offseason, considering all of the changes that have been made in the organization as a whole. If most of those moves pays off, and 2013 is a great year for Buffalo on the field, then hold your criticisms for NEXT YEAR’S free agent season; not this one. The Bills aren’t exactly rebuilding … but there have been lots of fine-tuning and re-tuning on this team. Let’s see how things go, starting with the draft!

    Settle down, people!

nw, my feel on free agent acquisition was based on 2 facts. 1, not many worthy players out there!2, patience to sit back and truly look at everyone. no mistakes were made!! GO BILLS!!

I don’t think much, in general, of free agent signings, myself …. too much of a boom or bust for my taste. I think Green Bay and NE have the correct plan; draft well, draft often (which means don’t ship your picks out the door every chance you get), and sign your good players to long term deals. You do that, you’re gonna have talent. What you DO with that talent; well, that’s what coaching staffs are for.

I think a WHOLE LOT of the signing of Doug Marrone, and I think that if they can get Ryan Nassib, the Bills will do some good things this season. Either way, it’ll be interesting … and nothing like it’s been before. I LIKE that idea!
