McShay Has Bills Taking Fisher

This is something that you may not have seen before. In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Bills talking Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher with the eighth overall pick. Fisher has been climbing up draft boards for a while, but usually isn’t tied to Buffalo.

Let’s think this through. The odds that the Bills will lose Andy Levitre to free agency are looking decent, despite his wonderful mustache. The Bills have had a solid line, but losing one of its center pieces in Levitre will certainly hurt.

However, the Bills just have so many holes. Can they really afford to use this pick on a position they are already pretty solid at instead of somewhere like quarterback, linebacker, wide receiver, or cornerback? Would this basically just be the C.J. Spiller situation all over again?

Fisher will likely be an outstanding pro. Many consider him one of the top five players in the draft. Nevertheless, he just isn’t at a position that the Bills should really be focusing on right now, especially with players in need positions that will likely be available.

This might be one of those “best player available, regardless of position” situations; especially if they don’t resign Levitre. I hope that they do, though – Andy’s a great player and a good, leader-type guy. The Bills don’t need revolving doors at one of the few areas where they have strength; they need to fill other holes, especially at linebacker.
