With the trade for Alex Smith, the Kansas City Chiefs will soon be parting ways with Matt Cassel. Cassel, who was the team’s starter, wasn’t exactly the most impressive quarterback in the world. Last season he threw for 1,796 yards with six touchdowns and twelve interceptions. Nothing too ground breaking.
So, is Cassel worthy of getting another starting position? Probably not. Will he? Likely. It is rumored that the Cardinals are interested, and that would make sense. What really does not make sense is the Bills trying to make a move on Cassel. In all honesty, it wouldn’t be that much of an upgrade from Fitzpatrick.
When the WGR staff was getting ready for the Bills game against Kansas City, they all contemplated whether they’d rather have Cassel or Fitzpatrick. They decided that both players were somewhat the same. Both were so limited that they’d never really be effective in the NFL.
It doesn’t seem like many fans are high on Cassel, and its unlikely that the Bills are either. He has proven that he is not good enough to succeed unless surrounded by New England Patriots type talent. A player like this is just more of the same. They’d be better off with a wild-card draft pick quarterback than Cassel.
