Buffalo Bills Re-Sign Tarvaris Jackson

Word has come out regarding a move that might be surprising for some.  Tarvaris Jackson was resigned by the Buffalo Bills.  As one of the free agents, along with Tyler Thigpen, Jackson was offered and has accepted.

This could mean a couple of things for the Bills.  Marrone and his staff saw enough of Jackson, not like any of us really did this season as you can see from the picture not in a Bills uniform, to keep him and give him a shot at the QB job while they draft a young QB for the future.  As for me I think this is the most likely option as I really don’t think that any of the QB within reach of the Bills are year one ready to start in the NFL.  Jackson would be a decent bridge for the first couple of games if not year while the draftee is worked into the position.

The other option is no one saw enough of Jackson last year and what do you know, they are actually going to give him a shot at being the backup or 3rd stringer on the team and attempt to make a run at the starting QB job.

Either or, this gives the Bills options at QB as we all know that Jackson is a lot more mobile than Fitz is which we have seen in the league really create opportunities for the teams that have used their QB in this way.

I kind of agree with this move, if for no other reason than it gives Marrone and the staff bodies at the QB position to evaluate. If they draft a QB in the 1st round, this makes even more sense …. because if Fitz doesn’t impress or can’t fit into what they are trying to build, he’ll likely be cut (see Bennett, McGee, Wilson, etc.), and then TJ can keep the seat warm until the rookie’s ready. He already knows the West Coast, he’s BEEN a starter in the league before, and he doesn’t seem to be a head case.

Makes sense to me …. especially if it sends the right message to Fitz and the rest of the team.
