Marrone Good Choice For Buffalo

Sure, he isn’t the biggest name in the world. Maybe he wasn’t the guy you had in mind once the Bills fired Chan Gailey. That being said, Doug Marrone is a good pick for the Bills and the kind of guy that should bring change to the organization.

Marrone turned the Syracuse program around in the four years he was there. He posted two winning seasons (including two Pinestripe Bowl championships) after inhering a team that went 1-10, 4-8, 2-10, and 3-9 under the previous head coach. Although he only had a 25-25 record as Syracuse’s head coach, he made the program relevant again.

He’s well respected among football people, which is always a good sign. He runs a run heavy offense, which should allow him to utilize C.J. Spiller much more than Gailey could. He is also very young, at only 48 years of age. The Bills were getting much too old, it was time to bring on a youth movement. Now with Russ Brandon and Doug Whaley moving into higher positions that may finally be happening.

He may not be the flashiest name, but he has experience as both a head coach and at the NFL level. Its something new, a change of pace from coaches in the past. This may lead many fans to wonder, will Marrone bring his quarterback Ryan Nassib to Buffalo with him?
