Buffalo on the Move...Maybe

Since the Bills let Chan Gailey go along with the rest of his coaching staff right down to the specialty coaches, what have the Bills been up to?

The Bills have announced that Ralph Wilson has given up control of the team and assigned Russ Brandon team President.  This is a positive move as Ralph has been holding the team back in some ways when meddling in team decisions.  Buddy Nix has kept his job and all its glory but now has to report to Russ Brandon, as does everyone.

They stated that there will be no restrictions and no limitations on the financial end for finding a coach.  They also stated that they would take as long as it needs to find a coach that will help the franchise.  This statement is a bit concerning to me.  So far, Andy Reid, who wasn’t mentioned as a prospect for the Bills has signed with the Chiefs.  Chip Kelly, who was to meet with the Bills is stating that he is close to a deal with the Browns.  Last time I checked Buffalo has a better roster than the Browns and should be more appealing to a coach.  Buffalo waiting is fine but when Gruden and Lovie Smith, really the only two coaches I feel would be productive here in Buffalo, of those that are available, sign with other teams and Buffalo signs a coordinator and says that this is the best available for the situation we are in, I call BS.

Lovie Smith has already called the Bills, the same day he was released as was Gailey, stating he is interested in the Job.  I know the Bills want to take their time and make the correct choice and fit for the team, but when your first move is out to Arizona with a coach that is less than .500 in wins and a coordinator as your first two interviews, I have concerns already.  Smith is 3-3 in the playoffs with a Superbowl appearance as well as going 81-63 over 8 seasons.

The Bills need a defensive minded coach for the cold ad snow drawn winters.  A run and Gun type offense is great but when it is faltered because of the weather, the defense needs to step it up.  Defense wins games.
