Rumours are swirling about who will quarterback the Bills next season. Will it be a first round draft pick? Will it be Michael Vick? Will it be Phillip Rivers? or will the team keep the status quo in Ryan Fitzpatrick? Each one has its downside. A draft pick will take time to develop in Gailey’s complicated scheme, Vick has a case of fumbilitis, Rivers has thrown 15 interceptions this season and we know what we get from Fitzpatrick: an erratic gunslinger who has trouble with the deep ball. Keep in mind, Nix has connections with Rivers. He was part of the team that traded for him in 2004. So what should the team do? I don’t have an answer right now, because I’m keeping an eye on the College talent, but if the team wants to get back to prominence they need to find answers by April.
Player to watch out for: RB Fred Jackson
Last week it was nice to finally see the two-headed monster at Running Back. It looked as though Fred Jackson was back in full form running for 109 yards while having 10 yards receiving. You can probably expect Jackson to get the majority of running plays once again based on the performance last week, because opposing teams will be keying in on Spiller. Do I agree with that? Not really, but it seems the coaching staff feels there are less defenders in the box when Jackson is on the field.
What Needs to Happen This Week: Run
Like last week the Bills need to limit Ryan Fitzpatrick. When he throws more than 28 times per game, you can count on the Bills losing 98% of the time. When he’s under that mark, the Bills have only lost twice. They’re 9-2. Plus the Rams have given up 114 yards per game on the ground while giving up 9 runs of 20 yards or more. So, the key to winning this week: Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run, Run.
