Report Card: Bills Defense

Somethings just slip through your hands.  This was the case for the Bills this past week against the Pats.  The Bills defense at times looked lost and like the Bills that couldn’t stop the run or pass.  But there were times the Bills were effective and looked like they knew what they were doing.  Overall stats show that the Bills are ranked 31stin total yards per game, at 410.  The Patriots offense is ranked first in yards per game at 410 as well.  Going into the game everyone figured that the Pats would walk all over the Bills and it would have been a blowout.  The defense although only allowed the offense to gain 347 yards.  They also had a couple of opportunities that would have given them an early advantage but were unable to hang on to interceptions that would have been thrown by Brady.  The nickel defense again struggled against the run, but the defense did not look horrible against the pass.  For the defense, the overall grade I would give them would be a C.  The defense did not lose the game.  There were some questionable defensive penalties that were called that in one instance hurt the bills to the tune of 69 yards altogether on one drive.  The defense could have done better but did stop two of the Patriots drives.  The offense was unable to capitalize on those as well.  All in all the team played better but there is still some improvement that needs to be done for the Bills and Chan Gailey to rectify this season as well as for Chan to save his job for another year.
