Today the Bills face off with the New England Patriots for the second time this season, this time on the road. In week four the Bills started off strong, but absolutely fell apart in the second half. They lost 52-28 in an embarrassing defensive performance. If they have any hopes of winning today they need to improve in the secondary. However, injuries may hinder the team even more than normal.
Aaron Williams and Terrance McGee are both out with injuries, putting pressure on rookie Stephon Gilmore to pick up some of the slack. Back at the cornerback position is Leodis McKelvin, who has been absent from the defense almost all season. The former first round pick has been used almost entirely as a returner, however today he is starting on the defense.
Stevie Johnson is also not at 100%, a major blow to the team. The Patriots major weakness is their secondary, which Johnson was hoping to expose. He is listed as questionable for this game.
The Patriots legion of runningbacks ripped apart the Bills defense last time. One of the two backs who ran for over 100 yards, Branden Bolden, is out this week due to a four game ban for an illegal substance. This shouldn’t be a huge loss, as the team still has the likes of Danny Woodhead and Stephen Ridley. Vereen will likely get carries as well.
With Miami playing Tennessee and the Jets playing Seattle losing this game could put the Bills further behind in the division. Their interdivision record would be 0-3, not a very good start for the team. Losing this game would also hurt any playoff chance the Bills have left and would mean the team would have to win out to have much of a shot.
The game starts at 1:00 pm eastern and can be viewed on CBS. After the game make sure to check back to Buffalowdown for the latest reactions. You can also follow us @BuffLowDown for in game opinions.
