Jarius Byrd was named the AFC defensive player of the week for his two interceptions last week against the Cardinals. Matt Hasselbeck has been named the starter against the Bills. Key matchups for the Bills/Titans game this week will be Chris Johnson against the Bills Defense. The Bills are coming into the game ranked dead last in the AFC and second last in the entire NFL beating out the lonely Saints. Buffalo has giving up an average of 429.8 yards per game. They are dead last in stopping the run this year giving up an average of 173.5 yards per game. If the Bills can stifle Johnson then, the titans become a 1 dimensional team and then the Bills are able to release Williams and Merriam (if ready to go) on Hasselbeck who is going for 200 TD passes for his career. He is just 2 away from that mark. Byrd looking to increase his interception ratio will be a good matchup to watch. The third matchup is going to be just the reverse from the first matchup. The titans are in the bottom half of the league in total yards (28TH) and rushing yards (24th). They have given up 129.5 yards per game on the ground. For Spiller, who has been awarded the FedEx Air and Ground Player of the week in previous weeks and is nominated for this past week as well, bodes well for him to be a nominee again for this week against the titans. If the Bills are unable to stop Johnson and vice versa for the Titans and the two headed monster of Spiller/Jackson then look for big play after big play on the ground.
