Game Round Up: Bills/49ers Report Card

Bryan Scott, after the 49ers trounced the Bills in a 45-3 loss said “It was embarrassing last week, It was embarrassing last week. You can’t win in this league just playing half a game of football and for whatever reason, whatever reason, looking in the mirror, all the teammates need to get it done”. Scott finished the game with 3 tackles. George Wilson finished with 6 tackles. Wilson stated in an interview that “…you can talk about it until your blue in the face but it’s about correcting mistakes and watching film but it’s about executing your job and getting the job done and that’s what it boils down to. Looking at how the defense has played and struggled, I am giving the defense a C- as an overall grade. A lot is not their fault as they have to perform based on the plays that are called and that starts upstairs with Dave Wannstedt. Wilson is correct in that it is about executing the plays and getting the job done. Even if the correct plays are called if you’re not tackling then you’re not going to win a lot of games. Breaking down the defense, the D-Line gets a grade of a D+. Again they did not get any pressure on Alex Smith. The Linebacking crew of Barnett, Shepard, Moats, and Bradham get a C-. There were just too many missed tackles throughout the game. The back four did not have very good coverage throughout the game. Gilmore and Williams at times looked to be lost. With poor coverage, the D-Backs get a C- as well. Improvements are necessary on the defense as a whole, but it starts with the Coaching. The coaching grade for the Defense mainly Dave Wannstedt is D-. Mre pressure needs to be put on the Offense through Blitzing Schemes as well is the Bills are going to sit in a zone defense. The front 4 is just not getting it done and it is as simple as that.
