Yesterday was another rough outing for cornerback Aaron Williams, who gave up two touchdowns on the day. In all honesty, its been a rough outing for Williams almost all season.
Williams, who was selected in the second round last year, has shown great promise at points in his two years with the team. However a play later he could give up a huge play to a wide receiver. As one of the most inconsistent players on the defense, Williams has been very frustrating to many fans.
The Bills have put themselves in a position were they have no other choice to start at cornerback. Because the team released Drayton Florence in the offseason and signed no free agents, they decided that they would go with two young cornerbacks or bust. Not only that, but the young players would have no mentor, no one to learn from, except Terrance McGee, who has been unable to play a majority of the time due to injuries.
Buddy Nix’s moves have started to come under fire, and this might be another questionable move for the team. As Dan Cave mentioned on Twitter during the game on Sunday, “Is this a bad time to remind you that the Bills passed on Andy Dalton for Aaron Williams?”
Williams will continue to start (its not like McKelvin or Rogers are really gunning for his job) so he will continue to learn on the job. The Bills have to hope that with more practice he develops into the player the team thinks that he could be. If not the Bills may have another draft bust on their hands.
