Well, that was sudden.
Vince Young is officially no longer a Buffalo Bill after the team released the veteran quarterback today.
Just last week, Young seemed to be completely in control of the #2 QB job after a decent performance in Buffalo’s second preseason game. But Young completely fell apart in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Steelers, throwing two dreadful interceptions and just looking out of sorts the entire night.
That was apparently enough for head coach Chan Gailey, as the team quickly moved to trade for QB Tarvaris Jackson from Seattle, and now Young is gone.
So now what?
We have to imagine that Tyler Thigpen isn’t long for this roster either. He might get a chance to save himself Thursday in Detroit for the preseason finale, but it doesn’t seem like the team would have made this trade if anyone was feeling good about Thigpen.
So it looks like the backup QB for Week 1 will be Tarvaris Jackson. That is not a name that inspires a lot of confidence, given his career to this point. (It should be pointed out that Jackson was actually pretty decent in the second half of last season.)
Let’s just hope Ryan Fitzpatrick plays well and stays healthy.
