This weekend will be the first chance we have to see the 2012 Bills Draft class in a Buffalo uniform, when all Bills rookies take part in the annual Rookie Mini-Camp. The camp is schedule to run from Friday, May 11 to Sunday, May 13.
In addition to Buffalo’s drafted talent, the team’s undrafted free agents will participate as well. Joining them will be a group of 21 additional “tryout” players. This group is not officially on the Buffalo roster as of yet and will be looking for an opportunity to impress the Bills coaching staff and win an invite to training camp.
The list of tryout players: C Taylor Boggs – Humboldt State, RB Zach Brown – Pittsburgh, DE Vince Browne – Northwestern, TE Derek Buttles – Maine, WR Roddell Carter – Alabama-Birmingham, LB Nick Clark – Alfred, CB Dominic Cook – Buffalo, WR Gino Crump – Arizona, FB Dorin Dickerson – Pittsburgh, DE Sean Ferguson– Mississippi State, WR Kevin Fitzpatrick – Marist, DE Corey Hart – Alabama A&M, DT Johnny Hollins – Texas Southern, LB Emmanuel Lamur – Kansas State, CB Byron Mulkey – Buffalo, S Nick Saenz – Houston, WR Derek Session – Maine, DE Bernard Smith – Louisiana-Lafayette, QB Alex Tanney – Monmouth College, LB Jeff Thomas – Indiana, DT Logan Walls – Georgia Tech
Some of these guys are undoubtedly just bodies that will be used to provide a little competition for the guys under contract. A few will no doubt find their way to camp this summer, though. The name that jumps out is Alex Tanney, the QB from D-III school Monmouth. We’ve talked a little about him already, and he’ll be one to watch this weekend. He’s certainly got some talent, as this video of him doing “trick shots” suggests:
