Slimy yet Satisfying

These are the guys who have had things like injury, off field trouble, those types of things that teams are looking at as question marks.  Talent wise however, there are few better.  Two of the top DB’s in the draft, Alabama’s Dre Kirkpatrick and N. Alabama’s Janoris Jenkins are ridiculously talented, but equally troubled off the field.  Jenkins it seems has been blessed with an extra dose of crazy (the 22 year old has 5 kids) and Kirkpatrick was arrested for pot possession.  Pot possession is not exactly murder, but since it happened just days before the Combine, you have to wonder what was going through his head as he prepared for the biggest days of his professional life up to that point.  Does Buffalo roll the dice on these guys?  Jenkins will likely be the second DB off the board, he is a sure first round talent in the middle rounds, and Kirkpatrick if he goes next will not last long either.  If you hit with one of these guys, it is a homerun.

Two Scoops of Vanilla

Booooring!  Safe if unspectacular prospects, (might not be a bad idea for this team) these guys will probably never be Pro-Bowlers and do not have the height of natural ability that some others have, but the odds of them being a bust decrease just as much.  Riley Reiff has the arms of a T-Rex at Left Tackle (the death knell of an offensive lineman) but other than that he is precisely what you are looking for.  He could be a top flight right tackle in the NFL, and that is why he is pretty safe.  Michael Floyd, the huge Notre Dame wide out should be available, and while he is a great end zone target and will take a lot of pressure off of Johnson, he does not possess elite speed and is not the deep threat we lost when Lee Evans was traded away.

Nice read. My picks? Kuechly or Wright in #1, Sanders or Schwartz in #2. But only if you can’t trade down.

  • Brad Andrews

I’d be beyond shocked if the Bills took Kuechly. They really like Kelvin Sheppard at that MLB spot.

  • frcorny

I’ve been reading some reports that have him fast enough to play OLB. I truly believe he would be an upgrade wherever you want to play him

Kuechly would surprise me as well, but I mentioned him to illustrate the point of drafting towards an average position in effort to make it a strength.  Wannstadt likes Sheppard a lot, but Kuechly is a far superior product.  Having them both, even if Shepp is slightly out of position is stronger than just having Shepp, even if he’s in a more natural spot.

@frcorny It’s tough to say what the Bills will do. Scouts/GMs seem to either love Kuechly or think he’s way overrated. We don’t know how Buddy Nix feels.
