I’ve been trying to hammer this point home for a while now:
The Bills ARE NOT going to go after the #2 pick in this year’s Draft in order to take Robert Griffin III. It’s not happening. Period. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the Bills’ starting QB in 2012.
Don’t believe me? Here’s Bills GM Buddy Nix on the possibility of trading up to #2:
“It is absolute. It’s a no,” said Nix. “You’ve got to give up the farm. We’re not in that business…Maybe if we felt we were in a situation like Atlanta was last year. They felt with one guy (WR Julio Jones) they could contend for the big dance and I can see that, but numbers are too important. Draft picks are too important to us.”
Nix is feeling pretty confident the team will be able to get a player that will help the Bills contend in 2012 with the #10 pick. “I think in my mind I can probably give you three areas that I think will be there at our pick,” he said. “I wouldn’t identify those because that would limit us against everybody else.”
Look, I love Griffin…but I get it. The Bills would have to trade an absurd number of picks to move past the Browns, Redskins, and possibly Dolphins in the Griffin sweepstakes. The Bills are closer to contention than you might think, and the biggest holes that need to be plugged don’t include QB.
So can we stop talking about this now?
