Possible Solution 3: Better Mouthguards

A lot of emphasis in the media is placed on the need for better helmets…and that’s true. But proper mouthguards might be even important in preventing concussion. Unfortunately, mouthguards don’t always seem to be taken seriously by many players. How often do we see an NFL or college player not wearing a mouthguard or clearly wearing an old, inferior one?

Multiple studies have shown that a mouthguard of proper thickness might be very important in preventing concussion. The NFL should mandate all players use a dentist-fitted mouthguard of proper thickness, and college and high schools should follow suit.
