There are some Bills fans who have already alreadywritten off the 2012 season simply because it’s very likely Ryan Fitzpatrick will return as starting quarterback. (That seems silly to me, but that’s beside the point right now.)
Well, those Fitz-hating fans might have a small glimmer of hope that someone else will get a chance to take the QB reins in 2012.
When asked if the Bills would take a quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft, Buffalo GM Buddy Nix refused to rule it out:
“Maybe so, yeah,” he told BuffaloBills.com. ”If there’s one there at the right time, I don’t mean that to be that vague an answer but yeah, we’d take one.”
Now before we get too worked up into a frenzy about this, let’s note that he didn’t say, “We’d take QB in the first round to challenge Fitz for the job.”
Of course, even if Nix wanted to take a QB, it’s not likely that one worthy of the 10th overall pick will be there when Buffalo selects. Andrew Luck will be taken first. Robert Griffin III will likely not be taken long after. Landry Jones and Matt Barkley are staying in school. Can’t see anyone else as a top-10 pick.
It will be interesting to see if the Bills do snag a mid- or late-round QB prospect. In my first mock draft yesterday, I had the Bills taking Boise State QB Kellen Moore, but there’s about a dozen possibilities in this draft.
