BLD Picks NFL Games Against the Spread: Week 17
Let’s be real: a lot of people love football because it’s the easiest and funnest sport to gamble on. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’m too broke to gamble much, but I sure do watch a lot of football. I figure I should help* my loyal readers out with some gambling advice. Each week I’ll pick four games plus a fifth “Lock of the Week.” *Help not guaranteed to be actually helpful. Ah, Week 17. Where the truly degenerate gambler tries to make up for a season of losses with one big score. Fortunately, if you’ve been betting [...]
With this regular season just about to end and the Bills (again) not headed to the postseason, it’s time to check in to see where Buffalo will be picking in the 2012 draft. Last week, we talked about how the Bills were almost certainly headed for the a top-10 pick. Well, that was before Buffalo went and screwed it up by getting the upset win over Denver this past Sunday. While I’m always happy to see a Bills victory, that win will almost certainly knock Buffalo back a few spots in the draft. Here’s the updated “standings:” T1) Indianapolis and [...]
With really just one exception (Buffalo’s glorious 31-0 domination of New England in the 2003 season opener), Patriots QB Tom Brady has absolutely torched Buffalo every time the Bills and Patriots have stepped on the field together since Brady’s arrival on the scene. And while there’s still a chance it will happen again on Sunday, Brady’s going to have to tough through some pain to do it. Brady is nursing a very sore left shoulder, an injury that has caused him to barely participate in practice this week. Today, he was listed as “limited” following a New England practice in [...]
Stevie Johnson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 7th round of the 2008 draft. He was a stand out receiver in what was a dynamic Kentucky offense led by quarterback Andre Woodson.
Bills Place PK Dave Rayner on IR; Sign Brandon Coutu
Buffalo is now on its third kicker this season. After longtime Bills kicker Rian Lindell was lost for the season to a shoulder injury several weeks ago, the Bills brought in journeyman kicker Dave Rayner to fill in. But the Bills placed Rayner on injured reserve today, as he reportedly is struggling with a groin injury. To replace him, Buffalo has signed Brandon Coutu. Coutu played his college ball at Georgia, converting 51-of-64 field goals and all 109 of his extra-point attempts. He was drafted in the 7th round by the Seahawks in 2008. He’s spent time on the Seattle [...]
Exactly Zero Bills Selected For Pro Bowl
The Pro Bowl goes back to Hawaii this season after a brief one-year stop in Miami. Just don’t expect to see any Bills there. The NFL announced its Pro Bowl rosters last night, and not a single Bill was selected for the AFC squad. (Buffalo’s opponent Sunday, New England, led the conference with eight picks.)
EDITOR’S NOTE: We here at BLD are unashamedly super excited for this story, as Michael Jasper is a favorite of this site. He did an interview with us during training camp, which you can check out HERE. Congrats Mike! It sounds almost like something out a Hollywood movie. One of the best stories coming out of this offseason was the tale of Michael Jasper, a lineman out of tiny NAIA school Bethel University who the Bills made their final selection in the 2011 NFL Draft. Jasper was so under the radar that most draft guides and resources didn’t even list [...]
Bills Safety Jairus Byrd is an Awesome Guy
Basketball great Charles Barkley once famously said in a commercial that he was “not a role model.” His (largely misconstrued) point was that pro athletes shouldn’t be role models for kids anyway. Well, by and large, that’s probably true. But if my son wanted to idolize a pro athlete, he can go right ahead and admire Bills safety Jairus Byrd. Whatever the opposite of “entitled” is, that describes Byrd, who has gone completely above and beyond the call of duty since being drafted by the Bills three years ago. The man is totally driven to help others: “You really don’t [...]
