BLD Picks NFL Games Against the Spread: Week 10

facebooktwitterreddit

Let’s be real: a lot of people love football because it’s the easiest and funnest sport to gamble on. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’m too broke to gamble (being a first-year public school teacher isn’t too lucrative), but I sure do watch a lot of football. I figure I should help* my loyal readers out with some gambling advice. Each week I’ll pick four games plus a fifth “Lock of the Week.”

*Help not guaranteed to be actually helpful.

Hot and cold. That’s been the story of my season.

If you’ve been placing bets using my picks all season, you’ve had some amazing weeks and some terrible weeks.

I went a pretty fantastic 9-1 combined in Week 4 and Week 5, but then I suffered through a disastrous 1-8-1 stretch  in Week 7 and Week 8.

But last week? Back to big-time success with another 5-0 week! A few truly bizarre Vegas lines helped out – I still can’t believe the Redskins were only 3.5 point underdogs to the 49ers.

Let’s keep the good times rolling!

(Home teams in CAPS)

Giants (+3.5) over 49ERS

I’m big on the Giants right now. As good as the 49ers are, I think they’re due for a tough game. I still don’t trust their offense, and the Giants will hassle Alex Smith all day. Add that to how well Eli Manning is playing right now, and I really like their chances here…especially with that extra half point.

Bills (+5.5) over COWBOYS

The Bills aren’t as bad as they looked last week. At least that’s what I keep telling myself so I can sleep at night.

SEAHAWKS (-7) over Ravens

If there’s ever a game that screams “letdown game,” it’s this one. The Ravens just got a huge win over the Steelers in  a night game, but now they have to go across the country to play in a tough environment in Seattle. The Ravens will likely win, but Seattle will hang around and keep this one close and under the seven points.

Steelers (-3) over BENGALS

I’ve lost my shirt betting against the Bengals this year, but this is the kind of game the Steelers always seem to win. And I really want to believe in the Bengals too, but this is the test they have to pass first.

And now…

*Note: don’t take the word “Lock” too seriously.

DOLPHINS (-4) over Redskins

My new strategy for lock of the week is just to bet against the Redskins until they prove otherwise. John Beck is absolutely terrible…and he’s not their biggest problem. If the Dolphins can do anything, it’s rush the passer. Beck will get battered.

Last Week: 5-0

Overall: 24-18-3

Lock of the Week: 6-3
