After each Bills victory this season, we’ve been awarded our BLD game ball to Buffalo’s outstanding player of the game after a vote by our readers. To see who has won after each win this season, click here.
Unfortunately, Buffalo wasn’t able to pull out another win yesterday, falling 27-24 to the New York Giants. This gives us the chance to introduce our new feature – the BLD Goat of the Game. Because we’re petty and childish, we will point our fingers at the player who deserves the most blame for each Buffalo loss.
Here’s the Goat nominees for the Giants loss:
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (2 INT) – Fitz wasn’t horrible yesterday for the most part, but those two interceptions were absolute killers. The worst part was that the second interception was exactly like the first – a terribly underthrown ball that could have been a big gain to Stevie Johnson. Fitz also took some really bad sacks, including one on a third down that knocked the Bills out of field goal range.
CB Drayton Florence (3 pass interference penalties, beaten repeatedly by Hakeem Nicks) – Really, really rough day for Florence yesterday. He’s been so good since he’s come to Buffalo, but yesterday was brutal. Eli Manning picked on him all day, and on the few occasions he prevented a receptions he drew an interference penalty. Just awful.
OT Erik Pears – Pears has held up surprisingly well all season long, but he didn’t have a great showing yesterday. Granted, stopping the Giants pass rush was a very tall order, but Pears did get smoked a few times and allow Fitz to get nailed. Also, he had a crucial false start penalty at the beginning of Buffalo’s final attempt to tie the score at the end of the game.
So there you go. Who deserves to be BLD’s first Goat of 2011?
