Eric Wood: A member of the league's most attractive team.

The Bills are the NFL's Best-Looking Team. Really.

The Bills might not be the most successful franchise, but the team apparently has one thing going for it – very attractive employees. That’s right: according to a recent study by Ursinus College in Pennsylvania, the Buffalo Bills are in fact the NFL’s most attractive team.

I can’t really begin to explain the actual process behind this study, so I will let the Wall Street Journal give you the details:

To measure each subject’s attractiveness, the researchers analyzed their photograph with a computer program that measures facial symmetry, or how closely the two halves of a person’s face match up. Research suggests this is a reliable measure of how attractive a person is perceived to be.

Basically, the study took a sampling of each team’s players, typically taking someone from each positional group.

So which Bills were studied? Here’s the list:

Owner: Ralph Wilson
Head Coach: Chan Gailey
Quarterback -Ryan Fitzpatrick
Wide Receiver – Steve Johnson
Center – Eric Wood
Tight End – Scott Chandler
Running Back – Fred Jackson
Nose guard or d-tackle – Kyle Williams
Defensive end or linebacker – Shawne Merriman
Cornerback – Terrence McGee
Safety – Jairus Byrd
Kicker – Rian Lindell

The Bills topped the list with a  ranking of 99.47. The NFL’s ugliest team? Weirdly enough, it’s Buffalo’s Week 1 opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs earned a ranking of “just” 94.6. (For perspective, average people score in the high eighties.)

So yes, the Bills manage to finish first despite owner Ralph Wilson and coach Chan Gailey (combined age: over 150) being part of the study. But apparently that makes some sense, as “facial symmetry” does not change with age. In fact, Gailey was rated as more attractive than many players. (Gailey gave a classic Gailey response when commenting on this story: “My wife will be shocked.”

Well, there you have it Bills fans. You might not root for a good team, but you’ll root for a good-looking one in 2011.
