Tonight’s practice saw one pretty interesting change to the Buffalo first string, as Chad Rinehart was promoted to the starting lineup at left guard, replacing two-year starter Andy Levitre at guard.
Now before we get too worked up, I highly doubt this is a permanent move. Levitre has played too well the past two years to get demoted permanently to the second team on the basis of the first few weeks of camp and one preseason game. Chan Gailey seems to just want to give Rinehart a fair shot to show what he can do, “Chad has played pretty well during camp, and he’s earned the right to compete for the job on a little bit more equal basis,” Gailey told BuffaloBills.com. “We’ll give him a shot and see how it plays out. Now is the time to give a guy a chance if he’s earned it.”
The guy who should probably actually be worried about this development is not Levitre, but Kraig Urbik, the other man who started at guard in the first preseason game. Urbik had some pretty ugly moments in the Bears game, and you have to believe Gailey is eyeing a potential upgrade at that position.
